The **A (Address) Record** is the most fundamental DNS record. Its sole purpose is to map a domain name (like example.com) to the **IPv4 address** of the physical server hosting the website (e.g., 192.0.2.1). Without a correct A record, browsers wouldn't know which server to connect to.

A domain often has multiple records for redundancy and load balancing. For instance, having multiple **MX (Mail Exchange) records** ensures that if one email server fails, mail can be routed to a backup server. Similarly, multiple **A records** pointing to different IP addresses can help distribute website traffic across several servers for better performance.

**TTL (Time to Live)** is a setting that determines how long a DNS record is cached (stored) by a resolver or local ISP before it must be requested from the authoritative nameservers again. A high TTL (e.g., 24 hours) means faster lookups but slower updates if you change hosting. A low TTL (e.g., 5 minutes) ensures changes propagate quickly.
